This generously proportioned 19th-century French gilded mirror, exemplifies the elegance and craftsmanship of the period. The carved wooden frame is adorned with scrolling acanthus leaves, floral flourishes, and a gently moulded profile, all finished in original gold leaf that has mellowed to a warm, time-softened patina. The surface shows subtle wear and tonal variation with raised areas gently rubbed and deeper recesses retaining their original brilliance. The mirror plate is original, showing light foxing that enhances its antique character.
